07.28.09show announcement: built to spill at the dry river collective in tucsonIn a shocking bit of news, Built To Spill will be playing at Dry River collective on October 28th. The collective is a center in Tucson for radical literature, movie screenings, zines, workshops and occasionally live music and djs. However, having a band of this caliber play the space is something wholly new. The show is going to be held in the courtyard out back of the space. The anticipation only grows as information and tracks from their forthcoming album leaks out. 07.27.09show announcement: atlas sound at the rhythm roomStateside Presents is pulling out all the stops lately to make sure Phoenix gets all the big tours coming through. I just wanted to send a big shout out to the tireless work they put in, along with the other local promoters out there, it's starting to get Phoenix the recognition we deserve. Anyways, fresh off our post about the new Atlas Sound song featuring Panda Bear, we get news that Bradford will be coming to town on November 5th. Warp artist Broadcast will be providing support.

07.27.09show announcement: sonic youth at the marquee!I heard about this show a couple of weeks back, but have remained tight lipped until Stateside decided to confirm it for us. In a month of many huge show announcements, here's the largest of the year. Sonic Youth will be playing at The Marquee on October 1st! The band is touring behind their new album The Eternal. Tickets will set you back $25 and go on sale August 1st. Make sure to pick them up that day to avoid missing your chance to see the legends and one of the best bands in the history of "indie rock".

07.27.09running from bears at the lost leaf tonightI wasn't able to track down any sort of website for Running From Bears, the new jazz band that's holding down Monday nights at The Lost Leaf, but the band does feature members of local band Moseyhorse. I went to see these guys play last Monday night and was highly impressed. The packed Monday night crowd seemed to be as well. 07.27.09basement jaxx streaming new tracksThe release of a new Basement Jaxx album is always one of the biggest and most anticipated events in music for me, and I know I'm not the only one. Luckily we're getting close to that time again. The group will be releasing their new album, Scars, on XL on September 21st. The band will be coming to town in support of the album and playing one of my favorite local venues, The Rhythm Room.
