08.31.09edward sharpe daytrotter sessionI previously wrote about the brilliant album Up From Below from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Now the band has recorded a Daytrotter session that includes four tracks from the album, including the singles "Home" and "40 Day Dream". This session hints at the 12 piece band's incredible live prowess and gives us a more raw take on some of the sunniest tracks released this year. 08.31.09show announcement: the king khan & bbq show at the rhythm roomThe King Khan & BBQ Show puts on the kind of performance that your friends are still talking about months after the fact. The band has come through town a few times already and is making The Rhythm Room their official home away from home. The band will be making a trip to that venue once again on November 16th. It's impossible not to smile and dance around when this band is playing, so get your tickets and be there.

08.31.09the xx announce north american tourThe XX is a fresh-faced band from London that's been getting a lot of play around The Factory office lately. I have been anticipating the band announcing some North American shows and they finally have. Unfortunately they aren't coming to Arizona, but that San Diego show is looking like a drive I'll be willing to make, especially with Friendly Fires playing as well. 08.31.09photos: against me at the icehouse- 8/30Here's some photos I caught of Against Me playing at the final night of the Kia Soul Collective. The band delivered a spirited set and news that they had been recording a new album in LA for the past couple of weeks. Should be interesting to hear what these guys have in store for us. The lighting in this place was a little rough on me tonight, so unfortunately I don't have as many shots as last night. Enjoy what's here though and hopefully Phoenix gets more events like the one that happened this weekend coming through often.

08.30.09photos: the kia soul collective – 8/29Yesterday's event at The Icehouse was a great way to spend an early Saturday evening. Miniature Tigers and Dear And The Headlights both played very solid sets and everyone there seemed to enjoy the free event. I also really appreciated the set up for the event. It was well planned out and utilized the space of the venue very well. Here's a bunch of photos from last night before I head off to the final day of the event weekend tonight. 08.29.09mp3: riton + primary 1- “who’s there” (style of eye vocal remix)It's been awhile since I've posted a techno banger around these parts, so I decided to share one that I've been feeling a lot lately. Riton and Primary 1 teamed up to produce the killer track "Who's There" and the release came with a number of top notch remixes. This eight minute journey from Swedish Grammy nominated producer Style Of Eye is among the best on the release. This guy does vocal remixes better than anyone else out there right now. 08.28.09local showcase day at kia soul collective tomorrowThere are two days left of the Kia Soul Collective event at The Icehouse. Tomorrow's event is a local showcase. It starts at noon with DJ sets throughout the day by Jared Alan, William Reed, and Goldsmith. They'll be holding down the party until the bands come on. Miniature Tigers is playing at 6 and Dear and the Headlights going on at 7. The event is free and you can test drive the Kia Soul to get a pair of tickets to the private Against Me show Sunday night. We'll be there grabbing photos throughout the day.

08.28.09dj am dies of apparent drug overdoseWell guys, unfortunately DJ AM isn't going to be playing at Tempe Marketplace after all. TMZ just broke the news that Adam was found dead in his apartment in New York City. Drug paraphernalia was found on the scene and it's believed this was the cause of death at this time. Keep an eye on this site as we'll bring you any more information we're able to find. We're saddened to have lost such a kind and gifted man at such a young age and send our blessings to all his friends, family, and fans. I'm going to be honoring ...

08.28.09video: basement jaxx- “feeling’s gone”Oh hell yes! New Basement Jaxx video here. This one is for the track "Feeling's Gone" and features Grammy nominated singer Sam Sparro. Check out the duo's heads stuck on to puppet bodies in this clip. Basement Jaxx will be hitting LA for a very rare stateside DJ appearance on October 31st for Hard Haunted Mansion. I'm a little scared to hit that fest after the fiasco at the previous HARD event, but it's going to be hard to turn down a chance to see these guys play. 08.28.09matt and kim on jimmy kimmel liveI was pretty bummed that I had to miss Matt and Kim's show at The Clubhouse on Wednesday night, but I absolutely had to see Davila 666 play at The Trunkspace. Those guys put on one of the best shows I've ever seen in that venue, and now we get this video of Matt and Kim live on Jimmy Kimmel's show. So, I think the pain has been erased. By the way, a big fuck you to whoever broke into six cars at the Bikini Lounge, including Davila 666's van, on Wednesday night. Karma will get you.
