Devendra Banhart is a pretty unlikely candidate to remix a track by France’s most perfect export of pop bliss, but this only increased my interested in giving this one I spin. The Phoenix remixes have been coming in large numbers and steady batches for pretty much the entirety of 2009. With that many remixes, edits, and covers of songs that I still haven’t fully grasped the original versions of, it can be a little difficult to wade through the murky waters to find the treasure buried at the bottom. I love “Rome” so much and I’m glad it was given a subdued remix that lets the staggering melody of the song dominate.
