09.28.09mp3: real estate- “beach comber”I have to firstly give credit to how amazing the artwork for this forthcoming album is. It's gotta be my favorite album cover I've seen this year. Luckily for those people out there who will pick up an LP because it has great artwork will not be disappointed with this one. Real Estate is from New Jersey and is gearing up to release their debut self-titled album on November 17th via Woodsist. 09.28.09mp3: the 87 stick up kids- “lights, camera…”Troublemaker sent over this new track that he produced for The 87 Stick Up Kids. "Lights, Camera..." is a mid tempo old school hip hop banger with a chopped up amen break and serious fuzzed out bass for your face. They have worked on remixes together previously, but this is the first original track that they've done together. Hopefully a sign of more to come in the future. I also just heard that Troublemaker signed with The Windish Agency, so you should be seeing a lot more of him around. Maybe a Phoenix date soon? Download

09.28.09mp3: school of seven bells- “iamundernodisguise” (alternate version)I just got word from Vagrant that School of Seven Bells is releasing a deluxe edition of their debut album, Alpinisms, with 9 bonus tracks on October 13th. The bonus tracks include alternate versions, live cuts, demos and new mixes. To give you a little taste of what the reissue offers, the label hooked me up with this alternate version of "Iamundernodisguise" that will be featured on the deluxe LP. This version is more stripped down and primal than the one we've previously heard. This looks like a reissue that's definitely worth picking up. Download

09.28.09mp3: the so so glos- “isn’t it a shame”For those of you that weren't in attendance at Modified on Saturday night, and haven't had the pleasure of hearing Brooklyn's The So So Glos, take a listen to this song below. The band is at the forefront of the Brooklyn DIY punk scene and lives in and runs The Market Hotel, one of the few venues of it's kind in the city. The band plays a bouncy and moving brand of punk that features pop-punk basslines and surfy guitar riffs, pushed forward with propulsive vocals and lyrics that speak of both political and personal issues. 09.27.09photos: titus andronicus and the so so glos at modifiedThose of you who didn't come out to Modified last night missed one hell of a show. The night kicked off with a burst of energy from local band The OSS and never slowed down for a moment. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of those guys, but I did get these shots of The So So Glos and Titus Andronicus. Modified was pretty packed throughout most of the night and there was tons of energy in the room. Hopefully both bands return soon!

09.22.09mp3: telefon tel aviv- “the birds”So the weather tonight finally feels like the season is actually going to change. It's almost perfect that Telefon Tel Aviv is coming to town on Thursday night. A band that has been around since 1999, and experienced great turmoil early this year with the passing of a member, sending the bitter Summer away for good. Or at least until April we can hope. In all seriousness, this is going to be a beautifully intense night of music at the Rhythm Room. Here's a track from the album, Immolate Yourself, that the duo released in January. Download

09.22.09mp3: beautiful swimmers- “o yea”Beautiful Swimmers is based out of Maryland, but I never would have guessed it based off this track. Why? Well I suppose I just never thought my favorite electronic track of the year would come from that state, or this country for that matter. But "O Yea" is definitely it. This song is what you would get if Can decided to start making tracks mixing minimal techno, dub, and tropical disco together. I could see this track electrifying open minded dancefloors. At the very least, it can certainly make your pulse race with the building intensity of the tribal drums. ...

09.22.09show announcement: edward sharpe and the magnetic zerosI just got word of some big news from the Vagrant camp. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are probably my favorite new band that I've discovered this year and I've heard countless stories about their live performances and how they always manage to blow away a crowd of people. Well, now Arizonans won't have to simply believe the hype, because this band of twelve will be performing at Club Congress in Tucson on November 4th. 09.21.09mp3: girls- “lust for life”Tomorrow is a big day for Girls from San Francisco. It marks the release of their debut LP entitled Album. Here's another band that is giving more credence to the theory that 2009 is a lot closer to 1969 than we though. There's some beautiful (and at times psychedelic) guitar pop on this album. And it's pretty exhilarating that music like this is becoming so popular these days. I'm loving the opportunity to see bands of incredible talent perform live often. In fact, you can catch these guys at Club Congress in Tucson on December 8th. Download

09.20.09photos: one man party at cheap thrillsLast night's performance by One Man Party greatly lived up to the hype. In fact, I was so captivated by his performance that I didn't take anywhere near the amount of photos I normally take when I'm out. Alas, I did get some shots of the night that a dj from Gent played in a German restaurant in Arcadia. Great opening set by Casper. I unfortunately missed most of Goldsmith's set. The post 2:30 set by OMP even included Len's "If You Steal My Sunshine."
