It might be sort of sad that I await the day an album leaks the way I used to wait for it to hit stores, but this is 2009 and that discussion is probably best saved for another time. I’ve been scouring every inch of the internet over the past few months waiting for the day when Converge’s new album Axe To Fall would finally see the light of day. Yesterday I logged on to check a few emails and got a Facebook message from my friend Jordan telling me he finally had it. A few minutes later and it was finally mine. When a band has been your favorite since high school, which these guys have, an arrival of a new album is like the birth of a child. After spending some time with this one I can confidently say that this is the best, most intense, and most experimental and challenging of all of their albums. After over 20 years of producing some of the most intense music the world has to offer, I often wonder how this band even keeps going, and am often shocked at how consistent and relevant they remain.
