Hailing from Chicago, Illinois Russian Circles have made a name for themselves since their inception in 2004. Known for their ability to move in and out of quiet ambiance and thunderous riffs with seemingly no effort, these musicians from the Midwest are garnering critical acclaim without compromise.

With less than 2 years passing since the release of Station, Russian Circles release Geneva and roll through with another solid release that is sure to please current fans and open the ears of new ones. Much like their previous work the album is always moving forward, the songs twist and turn and it’s a great album to get lost in, which I have done on an almost daily basis since the album’s release on October 20th. The introduction of strings was a surprise to me but a very welcome one, the opening track “Fathom” is set in motion by the moan of strings that gave me chills the first time I heard it, they are placed in several songs across Geneva and are never over done. The placement always expands the music to a level that rivals most other bands in the instrumental genre. Geneva speaks volumes without uttering a single word, large in scope and well conceived Russian Circles continues to grow in the right direction. We’ll be catching them saturday at Fun Fun Fun Fest.
