See that image above? That’s a photo I took of Titus Andronicus tearing Phoenix a new one at their show at Modified earlier this year. Seriously, if you were there I know you’re nodding your head in agreement! I walked away from the show thoroughly floored and anxiously anticipating their next album. Well, now I’ve gotten a chance to hear the first two tracks off their forthcoming album, “The Monitor.” And just when I thought I knew what to expect from the band, the news comes out that the new album has a civil war theme and features spoken word appearances from members of The Hold Steady and Vivian Girls. The album comes out on March 9th, but a 7″ featuring the two songs below is being released on February 9th. It was supposed to be one epic song, but the 7″ format didn’t allow for it. I like the effect splitting them up had, with the first side slowly creating rising tension and the b-side bringing it to a climax.
