01.29.10|MP3: Caribou – “Odessa”|You never know what you're getting from a new Caribou record except you can usually be pretty sure that it will advance electronic music forward in ways that few other acts can. With that said, it was a little shocking to press play and hear "Odessa" for the first time. 01.29.10|MP3: These New Puritans – “Orion”|When I think of post-punk, the first thing that comes to mind wouldn't be taiko drums. It also wouldn't be vocals by the New London Children's Choir. However, These New Puritans have combined both of these with a piano interlude to produce one of the most epic songs I've heard this year. The band proved on their first album that they were here to deliver much more than the average Factory Records-loving band, but the band is expanding their grandiose sound even more with their new album "Hidden." 01.29.10|MP3: Vivian Girls – He’s Gone (Chantels Cover)|While we anxiously wait for a new LP from Vivian Girls, the band is preparing to release a new 7" single on the record label that they run, Wild World Records. The single will feature a new song called "My Love Will Follow Me" on the a-side and will feature a cover of "He's Gone" on the flip. The song is a classic by The Chantels, who were the original girl group. The cover makes a lot of sense then since Vivian Girls take a lot of stylistic nods from that era, though the band doesn't quite have the vocal ...

01.29.10|Video: Surfer Blood – Swim|"Swim" has the biggest guitar sound you're likely to hear in the early part of 2010 and is also the most infectious single you're likely to find. What's even better is Surfer Blood's entire debut album seems to have been created specifically for those that worship the electric guitar. These guys are geniuses with the axe, and write a hell of a chorus as well. 01.27.10|Video: Local Natives – “Airplanes”|I previously brought you the debut single from the debut album by Local Natives. And now a little more than a month later, we get the debut of the first video from "Gorilla Manor", and it's for another one of the LP's best cuts, "Airplanes." The clip is supporting the US release date of the album February 16th via Frenchkiss. The album is already out in the UK and the promo copy I received made me fall for the band and left me craving a physical copy. Until I get my hands on it, I'll be watching this haunting video ...

01.27.10|LCD Soundsystem releases album teaser|LCD Soundsystem released one of my favorite albums in March of 2007 with "The Sound Of Silver" and has occupied a nostalgic place in my music collection ever since. Well it seems like they're shooting for a March release of their new album also, and James Murphy released this teaser that shows footage of the recording process in the slick LA mansion that was solely used as the studio the album was completed in. 01.27.10|A new house venue for Phoenix|The local music scene has been experiencing a lot of changes over the past couple of months as more and more venues close down or go in a different direction. I usually try to look on the bright side of things, and the past week has given us news that makes it easy to be hopeful for the near future. 01.25.10|MP3: My Gold Mask – “Circle Mass”|Are you a fan of The XX, but wish they had a little more bite sometimes? Well, I know My Gold Mask are probably sick of getting that comparison, but you just may have found the band you were looking for.
