You never know what you’re getting from a new Caribou record except you can usually be pretty sure that it will advance electronic music forward in ways that few other acts can. With that said, it was a little shocking to press play and hear “Odessa” for the first time. Surprisingly the first single from the upcoming album “Swim” is a pretty straightforward electro-pop number. My trepidation was quickly erased as I found out that “Odessa” proves Caribou is capable of doing electro-pop better than just about anyone. Being as elusive as he is, I wouldn’t go expecting the rest of the album to sound like this, but that’s what makes the wait for it’s release even more exciting. Now we just need an official date!
