It’s rare that I’m instantly sold on a band after hearing only one track, but you can now add First Rate People to that selective list. “Girls’ Night” is the hottest slice of R&B-influenced indie rock I’ve heard this year and though it’s much more direct than the style that Dirty Projectors plays, I believe fans of that band will dig this as well. The band counts Vincent Moon and members of The National as early supporters, which is actually what led me to check out the band. My only wish is to hear a lot more from these Toronto musicians this year.
