01.19.10|MP3: Past Lives – Deep In The Valley|Here's some more new music from the ex-Blood Brothers crew Past Lives. This one is quite different from the first song we heard, "Hex Takes Hold." While that one had a bite to it and charged out of the gate, this track takes the slow and steady approach and shows the versatility of the band. That versatility will be on full display on their debut album "Tapestry of Webs." It's getting released February 23rd on Suicide Squeeze. 01.19.10|MP3: Good Shoes – Under Control|I was a pretty big fan of the last Good Shoes record, but was anxiously anticipating the next one because I knew they had a lot more in them. Their new album "No Hope, No Future" lives up to the expectations I had and even blows them away. The record is being released on January 25th in the US, though it saw release in their native UK today. 01.19.10|Chaos In Tejas lineup announced|I know most people were keeping their eyes on the announcement of the lineup of a different festival today, so you may have missed the announcement of this year's Chaos In Tejas. The festival takes place in Austin on Memorial Day weekend and brings some of the best bands of the punk/hardcore/thrash variety to town. The festival is spread out across four of the best independent venues in the town; Emo's, Mohawk, Red 7 and Beerland. 01.18.10|MP3: Pure Ecstasy – Easy|I spend a lot of time listening to and writing about bands from Austin. And why wouldn't I? The city is one of the most musically inclined in the world. Being that there are so many great artists there, it can be hard to keep up with all the bands in the Texas capital. One that I recently discovered is called Pure Ecstasy. 01.18.10|MP3: Best Coast – Up All Night|The 7" format seems perfect for the fuzzy and melodic sound of LA's Best Coast, and the band is releasing yet another tomorrow. This time it's a split with Jeans Wilder on Atelier Ciseaux records. It's also limited to 350 copies, which should fly off the shelves incredibly fast with the amount of hype this band has been receiving lately. I intended on making it a weekly exercise, but running this blog mostly by my lonesome can sometimes get a little overwhelming. Especially when you're trying to ease into a new year. Even more so when that artist is a legend that is considered to be one of the primary influences on an entire genre of music. 01.15.10|Civic Space Jam #3 this Sunday|Civic Space Jam makes it to number three this month. The party in Civic Space Park goes down every third Sunday and brings DJs out of the club and into the center of the city. It also invites everyone out to party as the event is free and all ages. There's a pretty stacked lineup of DJs this Sunday, including founders of the event DJentrifitcation and Hartbreaks. 01.15.10|Shearwater is playing Phoenix in April|Shearwater is releasing their new album "The Golden Archipelago" on Matador on February 23rd. So, like any band worth their weight, they're going on a massive tour to support it. The band will spend most of late February and early March in Europe and then return for a full US tour. Best of all, there's a Phoenix date in the mix. They'll be playing an intimate 21+ show at The Rhythm Room on April 22nd. 01.15.10|Select Shows brings SXSW to Phoenix|It's just about that time of the year again. You know... when Phoenix gets flooded with bands on their way to or from SXSW that need a spot to play on their way. And we're more than happy to oblige. This year Select Shows put together a two day mini-fest at the Trunk Space. It's happening March 16th and 17th and features five touring bands and three locals. The first night's lineup features two up-and-coming garage rock bands from San Francisco.
