01.14.10|MP3: Surfer Blood – Swim (Allen Blickle Remix)|Baroness is arguably the best metal band around, so you can understand the state of shock I was in when I heard Allen Blickle from the band decided to try his hand at remixing one of my new favorites. "Swim" from Surfer Blood is a standout single that is sure to help the band play much bigger stages than they've experienced so far. 01.14.10|MP3: The Silent League – Yours Truly, 2095 (Memory Tapes Version|Memory Tapes is starting of the new year the same we he ended the last: producing a never-ending string of incredible remixes. This one has quickly become one of my favorite productions of Dayve Hawk's short but illustrious career. It's a remix of Brooklyn-based band The Silent League's cover of ELO's track "Yours Truly, 2095" and it completely ups the ante on the original. 01.13.10|MP3: First Rate People – “Girls’ Night”|It's rare that I'm instantly sold on a band after hearing only one track, but you can now add First Rate People to that selective list. "Girls' Night" is the hottest slice of R&B-influenced indie rock I've heard this year and though it's much more direct than the style that Dirty Projectors plays, I believe fans of that band will dig this as well. 01.13.10|MP3: Dum Dum Girls – Jail La La|Dum Dum Girls are releasing their Sup Pop debut on March 30th. The album is called "I Will Be" and is very high on my list of most anticipated records of the year. If you're in the same boat, then you'll probably be as thrilled as I am that they are releasing the first single from the album on February 16th. "Jail La La" will be released on a 7" with a non-album track on the flip. This track puts a big smile on my face and makes me want to dance around my living room. Let's cross our fingers ...

01.13.10|The Avett Brothers are playing MAC|The Avett Brothers released their major label debut during 2009 to rave reviews. "I and Love and You" has been a success beyond what anyone could imagine and now it's time for the band to take the show on the road and give their fans a taste of how it translates to a live setting. 01.13.10|Blunt Club moves to Yucca|Blunt Club has been around for an eternity in nightlife time, and the weekly party has been held at a variety of different venues. Starting January 28th, they'll officially be holding down Thursday nights at one of my favorite spots in town. Yucca is always a great place to see a show, and even better because it's always free to get in. And the cheap booze flows like water from behind the bar. 01.12.10|Elvis Costello is playing Scottsdale|Elvis Costello has been a constant force in music for over 30 years now. During that time he has released some of my favorite albums, including "My Aim Is True" and "This Years Model." But don't think that he's gotten old and boring, because his 2009 release still kicked some ass and his live show is just as potent as ever. Don't believe me? 01.12.10|MP3: Delphic- Two tracks from “Acolyte”|It can often be easy to be bored by bands that combine indie and dance music together. Unfortunately so many of these bands are incredibly boring and only take the most generic elements of both the genres and bring nothing new to either. Putting up with that only makes me appreciate a band that does it right even more. Delphic is 2010's answer for fans of indie dance music who are searching for a band that's doing this style justice. 01.12.10|Beach House is coming to the Rhythm Room|As if getting a chance to see Phoenix in a few weeks isn't exciting enough, another one of the indie scene's best bands just announced they'll be paying a visit to town right after this year's edition of Coachella. Beach House was one of my favorite bands even before I heard their epic new album, "Teen Dream." However, it's so damn good that their position has been elevated quite a bit, and this show is one I'm looking forward to more than most.
