It’s just about that time of the year again. You know… when Phoenix gets flooded with bands on their way to or from SXSW that need a spot to play on their way. And we’re more than happy to oblige. This year Select Shows put together a two day mini-fest at the Trunk Space. It’s happening March 16th and 17th and features five touring bands and three locals. The first night’s lineup features two up-and-coming garage rock bands from San Francisco. Ty Segall and Charlie & The Moonhearts came through Phoenix on tour last summer, and they’ll be welcomed with open arms. Opening up the show is two very young and focused bands in Chandails and The Young Friends.

Don’t think that Select showed all their cards the first night, because the second features three very different sounding bands, but who are all focused in experimenting with pushing the boundaries of rock music. Past Lives features members of Blood Brothers, and fans of that band will welcome the vocals we know so well making a return, but with a fresh and different sound to back them up. Extra Life features Charlie Looker of Zs and Dirty Projectors and is a dense and rhythmic project that plays songs that both make you want to dance and make you feel uncomfortable at the same time. Dead Times is a little bit noise and a little bit pop and all in all a very interesting sound. Russian Arms and Optics will be kicking this all off so go see them if you haven’t yet.
