02.18.10|MP3: Two new tracks by Breakbot|I'm going to be honest and say I haven't been paying attention to much of anything that Ed Banger has done recently. That is until I heard these new Breakbot tracks. Luckily he avoids the trapping of tired "blog house" cliches and instead produces tracks that wont sound instantly dated the second they fall off the Hype Machine. 02.16.10|MP3: Body Language – “Work This City”|I've been listening to the new EP called "Speaks" by Brooklyn trio Body Language on repeat all week. It's an incredibly solid debut and I think the group has the potential to make some real noise this year with their mix of electronic and acoustic instrumentation. The band takes influences as diverse as soul, Detroit-style techno, and classic disco and mixes them all up with a bit of an indie flair. 02.10.10|Video: Dam-Funk unplugged|Dam-Funk just went into the studio with mastermind Peanut Butter Wolf and recorded an unplugged version of "Steppin Into My Life" yesterday. They recorded it live to video and released it today, just in time to get you inspired for Valentine's day. You know... if you do that kind of thing. The video is just Dam-Funk and an acoustic piano in a room surrounded by red velvet curtains and candlelight. It's an intimate look into the creativity of one of the most gifted musicians playing today and shows us we probably haven't seen anything yet.

02.10.10|Javelin prepares to release “No Mas” and opens for Yeasayer|Javelin brings to mind the globe spanning crate-digging experiments of The Avalanches with a bit of Brooklyn flair. Only instead of twisting thousands of samples into three minute masterpieces, Javelin actually plays all these dusty grooves live. They recreate these sounds using a mix of stings, guitars, drums, and pianos. They also throw drum machines, samplers, turntables, and even the occasional glockenspiel in the mix. They're getting ready to release their debut album called "No Mas" in April and are visiting Phoenix as the opening act for Yeasayer on April 15th. 02.10.10|Sleepy Sun is coming to town, opening for Arctic Monkeys|Our friends and fellow local bloggers over at Electric Mustache recently delivered the news that the Arctic Monkeys would be coming to the Marquee on April 15th. However, they failed to mention what I believe to be the most exciting news about that show. Sleepy Sun is opening!
