03.24.10|The Dodos and The New Pornographers are coming to Tucson|Alright Tucson, you win yet again! You always seem to get the best exclusive shows, though we did get Phoenix that one time. Luckily for us broken-hearted Phoenix souls, you're only a short drive away. That makes me especially happy with the news I just got about this monster of a show on July 21st at The Rialto. Unfortunately this led to me being largely disappointed the two times I saw the band live. 03.22.10|Gaslamp Killer is returning to town; joined by Downtime DJs|Universatile Music is bringing back one of the most creative and forward-thinking DJs out there right now. The Gaslamp Killer came out of the experimental hip hop scene in LA with a sound invoking mixes of psychedelia, kraut, broken beats, world music and more recently dubstep. He uses bits and pieces of such diverse genres to craft the original tracks he creates. 03.22.10|MP3: Holy Fuck – “Latin America”|Post-rock is often times thought of to be a pretty stiff and rigid style of music. It's mostly instrumental and nature and usually doesn't inspire much of an urge to dance. 03.22.10|Video: Deftones – “Rocket Skates”|One of the best surprises in life is hearing new music by a band that's been a long time favorite but has failed to impress you much recently. In the case of Deftones, I even thought the band had completely fallen off the map following the tragic ongoing situation of bassist Chi Cheng being in a coma. Rather than self destructing by dwelling on the situation, the band recruited bassist Sergio Vega from Quicksand and went about writing possibly the best record of their career.
