|Eddy Detroit playing Anti Record Store Day at Eastside Records|

Sun City Girls are one of the most important and influential bands to ever come out of Arizona. The experimental band was formed in Phoenix in 1979 and was extremely prolific, with well over 50 releases spanning a wide variety of genres, often all in the same song. While they are often forgotten due to the mainstream success that other bands in town during the same time period experienced, they’ve gone on to be legends in the experimental music scene. Eddy Detroit was a member of the band and has gone on to forge his own solo career that includes a lot of impressive work as well. I recently received notice that he would be playing a rare and totally free show this Saturday.

The show is happening at Eastside Records on Saturday and is billed as an Anti Record Store Day celebration. Besides catching a legend playing in an intimate environment for free, you’ll also be able to catch a band that was no doubt influenced by Sun City Girls and has been involved in a lot of controversy lately. That’s right, the infamous Pigeon Religion will be opening this show. This is yet another situation where I disagree with our pal Martin over at New Times. I actually think this band is fantastic and I appreciate the bare violence of their live performance. Don’t miss out on this one people!
