Is Phoenix quietly becoming a capital of the re-emerging garage rock scene? It seems that way as we are getting a continued stream of these bands coming through town to play shows and have a number of local bands playing this style that are popping up as well. I mention this because yet another show was recently announced. Jacuzzi Boys hail from Miami and play garage influenced heavily by surf music and the climate they’re surrounded by. You’ve probably heard this band if you follow this scene at all as they tour relentlessly and have been on a lot of bills with much more popular bands. Well the band is hitting the road again in May and Phoenicians were lucky enough to get a date.
They’re coming to town on May 17th and playing at the best place in town for this kind of show, The Yucca Tap Room. There will be no cover and cheap booze flowing, along with an amazing selection of craft whiskey in the newly opened lounge connected to the main bar. The show will also feature a set by Becky Lee & Drunkfoot, who has consistently impressed me every time I’ve managed to catch her live. This is all scheduled to start at 9pm, though they’re usually on bar time, so don’t worry too much if you need to show up later.
