Minimal techo is one of my favorite genres of electronic music. I’ve always been attracted to minimal design and the theory of doing more with less in general, so it wasn’t shocking when I first heard this style and fell in love. It’s the best headphone music I know of and I always find myself listening to it late at night when I’m working intensely on something. In fact, I find myself to be far more creative when I’ve got some good minimal running through my brain. The best release from this genre I’ve heard this year is the grandiose album “Black Noise” from Pantha Du Prince. I find myself absolutely hypnotized whenever this album is on. Consider it a drug that’s cheap and wont ruin your life.
The producer has taken the same magic he used to create the aforementioned album and given the remix treatment to “darkwave” juggernauts Cold Cave. He mostly drowns out the vocals and crunches the beats through a thick layer of distortion. The melody here is mostly led by some very creepy sounding whistles that will probably send a few shivers down your spine. This is another case of two incredibly talented parties coming together to create something that is more impressive than I could have expected. It’s been a good week for fans of remixes and for electronic music in general. I hope next week is the same.
