First off, I’ve gotta give a huge shout-out to Stateside and UM for bringing Aloe Blacc to Phoenix on Tuesday night. It’s rare that I get to catch a soul show, especially in the intimate confines of the Rhythm Room. This night felt extra special and beautiful as Aloe had the sold-out crowd sing Happy Birthday to his dad. That’s right, his dad celebrated his 60th birthday with the crowd at the show and even got on stage to lay down a few verses to the hungry people hanging on his every word. I can tell you this is one of the few shows I’ve been to where I looked around and saw a smile on just about every face in the crowd. Phoenix loves you Aloe! Come back soon!
