Hornitos and Vice are teaming up to throw one hell of a free party in Phoenix next Wednesday. I write about Kinch a lot on here, so I’m sure all my readers (and most Phoenicians) are familiar with those guys. Brothers Backword will also be in the house along with two DJs that are regulars at The Black Forest Mill. The best part about all this? The event is totally free and has an open Hornitos bar from 10pm to 12am. Hopefully this means more Vice events will be happening in Phoenix in the future. RSVP to the event here.

Alright everyone, another successful contest is in the books. This time we are giving away two tickets to one of my most anticipated events of the early Fall. Steve is the drummer from Soulwax and is also known as One Man Party when he is performing his DJ sets. The man will be here tomorrow night, all the way from Gent, to perform for Phoenicians at Cheap Thrills. We had a whole bunch of entries this time, but we can only have one winner. It’s one of those Saturdays where I’m feeling really giving, even though I haven’t gotten my first cup of coffee yet, so here’s another contest you can win. Here’s a huge show that was flying under my radar until last night. The legendary Japanese noise band rarely finds themselves on US soil, let alone playing a bar on the Mesa/Tempe border. But, that’s exactly what’s going to happen on November 4th when Melt Banana brings their “new-wave grindcore” sound to the Hollywood Alley. If you don’t handle high pitched screams and the sound of electronic destruction well, you’re probably going to want to stay away from this one, as the band will be tearing through a selection of songs from their nearly twenty year history of violence.

I got an email from local concert promoter Psyko Steve this afternoon that was a pleasant surprise. It contained the news that The Mother Hips will be playing at The Last Exit on Friday, September 18th. These Californians have been kicking around the underground music scene for nearly two decades and play a delightful mix of psyche, power pop, and 70′s influenced roots rock. They’ll be touring in anticipation of their upcoming album, Pacific Dust. This will be the band’s seventh LP. This should be a great show.

September is turning out to be a pretty big month for the weekly party Cheap Thrills. The Blackforest Mill will be invaded by Totally Michael for a special live performance on September 26th. He just recently released his debut album on IHEARTCOMIX and is set to bring the party in a major way to Phoenix. I’ve heard nothing but raving about his live show. and now we’ll be lucky enough to see it in person. More info to come as it’s released.
