Alright Phoenix, this is the night I’ve been anxiously awaiting for the past month. Those of you that know me personally have no doubt heard me talk about it at least once during that time, and the rest of you get to hear that now! Tomorrow night at the Arizona Center, the incredibly talented and hard-working Tiffe Fermaint will celebrate a decade of running her own fashion label. First off, I don’t know anyone as young as Tiffe who has been an entrepreneur for anywhere near as long, so lets give it up for her for that alone. But beyond being a smart and gifted businesswoman, she is on some next level shit when it comes to design. She’s by far the most exciting fashion designer I have seen come out of Phoenix and I think she’ll be internationally know very soon.

So, before that happens and she’s whisked away from the desert forever, get out and check out her runway show tomorrow night. The night gets going at 6pm with a plethora of local music and art. I’m especially looking forward to a DJ set by Pablo Gomez, along with a live set from Elektrobahn and the Arizona debut of THErapist. Along with the music, there will be live art from Bobby Castaneda and an opening fashion show featuring the designs of Ashley Pasquan and Kelly Calabrese. While the event is free to attend, you should purchase a runway seat for $20, as Tiffe is donating the proceeds to the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA. Whether you decide to buy a runway seat or not, I hope you come out tomorrow and support the burgeoning indie fashion scene in Phoenix. I promise that you’re in for an exciting night.

I think I do a pretty good job of covering the local music scene, but I have been lacking big time on the coverage of the rest of the arts and culture of this beautiful city. Consider this the beginning of my efforts to give you readers a more rounded guide to what’s happening in Phoenix. If there’s one event that you need to mark down on your calendar right now, it’s the return of the annual Grand Ave. fashion show. Last year the event took place at Paisley Town and I had a blast DJing the runway show for the girls over at Butter Toast Boutique. However, I hoped that they would get a bigger space and more designers involved this year. Well it seems luck is definitely on my side.

This year’s show features more boutiques and designers than last year, including some love for men’s fashion with the boys from Phoenicia Association. Not only will we have a lot more fashion to see, but we also get to experience it all in the beautiful and unique Bragg’s Pie Factory. This is one of the best mixed use venues in town and I’m sure that it will be sparkling and full of beautiful people on this evening. So, bring a date and look sharp, and come prepared to celebrate the unique and stylish boutiques and designers that are making the Phoenix DIY fashion scene so exciting to witness lately.

Sam Wilkes is a local actor, artist, and you can now add jewelry designer to the list. He is part of a new generation of designers that are creating jewelry specifically for men and providing pieces that are both unique and artistic. I know I personally have a hell of a time finding jewelry that I would actually enjoy wearing, especially when you look at the poor selection that mainstream designers offer in their mens lines. If you have this same problem, Brass Buck by Sam Wilkes can probably help you solve it with his one of a kind pieces.

He started off selling these pieces on his Etsy store and has recently began selling them at local boutique Phoenicia Association. There was recently a trunk show featuring his work and those of a few other local jewelry designers, and word is that these pieces have been flying out of the shop. I can’t say that I’m surprised as they are both vintage and timeless in feel and look like they should cost a lot more than what he’s charging for them. Enjoy a few shots of what he’s created so far below and get your hands on one of these pieces soon if it catches your eye, as they are all works of wearable art.

Now that Phoenix has joined the list of cities lucky enough to have an H&M (and we’ll have two soon!) I figure I should update everyone on what will be in the shop soon. As the boundaries between mens and womens clothing begin to fade a bit, it’s still pretty surprising that such a mainstream label is releasing some of the pieces included in this collection. And while I certainly won’t be wearing that man-skirt anytime soon, there’s some clothing in here that I’ll certainly be grabbing when I see it. If you haven’t visited the Scottsdale location yet, I’d recommend getting in there. The lines are pretty ridiculous, but it’s worth it to grab some great clothes at a price that’s more than reasonable.

Hedi Slimane has continuously been a huge inspiration to me. He’s the greatest male fashion designer to ever live in my humble opinion and one hell of a photographer. Most of his photographic subjects are young Americans and the activities they partake in. He’s spent a lot of time recently traveling and shooting images of people at various musical festivals, including some wonderful sets at last year’s edition of Coachella. Being the expert he is in the field of American counter culture, putting together this limited-edition film collection is a total no-brainer. The box set is limited to 2500 copies and is available now through colette. Check out the trailers for a few of the films on the collection.

The fine fellows over at Shirts And Destroy have teamed up yet again with tattoo/art master Thomas Hooper to release ‘Book of Lines’ Vol.1. Featuring over 540 Images of linear reference material and packaged with a limited edition Hooper shirt this is one package that will not be around for long. The first time I came across Thomas Hooper’s site I was mesmerized, once you see his work for the first time you will be able to recognize his work anywhere. Do yourself a favor and check him out, and while you’re at it give Shirts And Destroy a look over, as far as custom screen printing and art prints they are unrivaled in my book. - – Posted by Jordan Walker – -

I love these pieces from the Chrishabana Fall/Winter 2009 jewelry collection. It’s rare that I feel the urge to buy necklaces, especially since the majority of the stuff out there for guys is either way too cheesy or way too “look at me I’m a rich douchebag.” I love the classic gothic styling mixed with a modern sense of humor. They’re versatile in that they could go well in a formal or casual setting. And best of all, the prices are kept relatively low priced for the level of quality that’s being provided. You can order these and more over at Oak NYC.

Kitsune has generally been known for being one of the best electronic labels out there. They’ve been releasing records for a long time and built a solid reputation for themselves the world over. However, they’ve quietly been morphing into much more than just a record label. In fact, their clothing line is becoming sharper each season and this most recent collection puts them up there with all the finest labels in the business. For the Fall/Winter 2009 collection, they decided to go with a classic American prep look, mixed with some French character for good measure. These clean and classic cuts should find people eager to wear them worldwide. Yet another step in the right direction for a company that believes in their vision with all of their being.
