09.01.09show announcement: totally michael at cheap thrillsSeptember is turning out to be a pretty big month for the weekly party Cheap Thrills. The Blackforest Mill will be invaded by Totally Michael for a special live performance on September 26th. He just recently released his debut album on IHEARTCOMIX and is set to bring the party in a major way to Phoenix. I've heard nothing but raving about his live show. and now we'll be lucky enough to see it in person. More info to come as it's released.

08.28.09video: basement jaxx- “feeling’s gone”Oh hell yes! New Basement Jaxx video here. This one is for the track "Feeling's Gone" and features Grammy nominated singer Sam Sparro. Check out the duo's heads stuck on to puppet bodies in this clip. Basement Jaxx will be hitting LA for a very rare stateside DJ appearance on October 31st for Hard Haunted Mansion. I'm a little scared to hit that fest after the fiasco at the previous HARD event, but it's going to be hard to turn down a chance to see these guys play. 08.26.09video: silver medallion- “gravity”This blog is all about the advancement of the music and arts scene in Phoenix, so it's great to see them combine to create something special. Local photographer Giulio Sciorio directed and filmed this music video in HD using a Canon 5D MKII. Giulio is also a part of local photography cooperative Studio 8 and has made Phoenix proud with this one. Silver Medallion's track "Gravity" is off their recently released album Last of the Popstars and recently started receiving airplay on Power 98.3, so give it up to these guys for doing their own thing free of any label ...

08.19.09chloe for opening ceremony videoOn Monday we brought you a preview of the line that Chloë Sevigny has designed for Opening Ceremony. Now we got our hands on a video that was directed by Joe Denardo in celebration of the opening of OC's Tokyo store on September 30th. The video features Chloë in gear from the Fall/Winter collection she helped create. All clothing seen in the video is available here.

08.19.09video: the antlers- “two”A lot of talk is being had about The Antlers new album Hospice. I've had it in pretty heavy rotation and would say it's holding strong in the top 10 albums of the year so far for me. This animated clip was directed by Ethan Segal and Albert Thrower. 08.18.09rocksmith fall 2009 video lookbookI'm a huge fan of the video lookbook. It's great to see the photoshoots, but with clothing I feel it's even better to see it in motion. This particular video combines the best of both worlds, using motion-portraits in order to display Rocksmith's Fall 2009 collection. The video was directed by Lazlo and features a soundtrack by Brooklyn native Tumblin' Dice. This gear will be available at retailers, such as Karmaloop, shortly.

08.17.09chloë sevigny for opening ceremonyChloë Sevigny has partnered up with Opening Ceremony to produce a unisex collection for the fall/winter 2009 season. The collection features items such as trousers, button down shirts, jackets, blazers, and more. Being that the collection was done for OC, this gear is a little on the pricey side. All items shown here are available now at Opening Ceremony's online store.

08.14.09video: antony and the johnsons- “crazy in love”Come on, don't even pretend like you never liked "Crazy In Love", or at least found yourself humming it after getting it stuck in your head for the thousandth time. Luckily Antony and the Johnsons recorded this cover version of the track so those of you more obsessed with your level of hipness can finally admit to enjoying it. The video for the cover is quite artistic and I really enjoy the distortion effect that was used. The track is available now as a double A-side single with The Crying Light song "Aeon".

08.13.09video: girls- “lust for life”Far too much attention has been paid by the media to Girls love of illicit drugs. We should instead be focusing on the San Francisco based band's amazing recreation and adoration of the sound of The Beach Boys. These guys have some of the most glorious harmonies that have ever passed through my ears. And yeah, the drugs might help them get to a place where they can produce said tracks, but I highly doubt tracks like "Lust For Life" would come about without a high level of talent being involved. 08.13.09video: memory cassette- “asleep at a party/last one awake”Memory Cassette is a one man band that makes music perfect for today. It's hazy and otherworldly, while still retaining warmth and letting melody seep through. This video makes you long for all the good days you had as a child, before responsibility took over your life, and that's exactly how I feel on overcast days like these.
