08.12.09video: white girl lust- “back and forth”White Girl Lust is a group made up of two over achievers. The duo makes killer disco house tracks, evidenced by their new EP called Back And Forth. They also run their own record label called Solid Bump that is starting to garner quite a reputation in electronic music circles. And now, Clayton from the group has used his art school backround to animate and direct this incredible music video for the title track of the new EP. You should go over to Beatport and grab everything you can by these guys immediately. You won't be disappointed.

08.05.09video: modest mouse- “king rat” (directed by heath ledger)The video that everyone has been waiting for what seems like ages to see has finally been made available. Early this morning, Modest Mouse released their new music video that was directed by the late Heath Ledger before his passing in January of 2008. The music video for "King Rat" is an incredibly vivid (and gory) animated clip. The song didn't make the cut for their 2007 release, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, but was chosen by Heath to receive his first (and only?) director credit. 07.29.09video: yacht- “psychic city (voodoo city)”We premiered this track back in June and now we've got this video to share with you. The Portland duo has been one of my favorite acts over the past few years and I was incredibly excited when they signed to DFA, as I knew the label would help them further the vision they have. This video is of a darker tint than the one they did for "Summer Song" and I'm absolutely loving it. Click here to download the track from our previous post.

07.24.09video: woods- “where and what you are”We're reaching the overload point with bands doing the "folksy-rock" thing these days, but Woods is amongst the best out there. These Brooklyn boys have a new music video for the track "Where And What You Are" that was directed by Amber Gonzalez. They'll also be at The Rhythm Room August 24th with Dungen for one of my most anticipated shows of the summer.

07.23.09video: the fiery furnaces- “charmaine champagne”The Fiery Furnaces have a new album out on Thrill Jockey called I'm Going Away. This mark's the bands 8th album in less than a decade and is being touted as the band's most accessible album yet. This band does pop the right way and I'd recommend picking the album up right away. Your ears will thank you later. Here's the music video for "Charmaine Champagne", featuring some impressive animation.

07.21.09video: obits- “pine on”We featured the track "Pine On" from Obits back in April, and now the song finally has it's own music video. As previously discussed, Obits features Rick Froberg of Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu fame. The band released an album full of incredibly solid garage rock songs called I Blame You earlier this year. Get your hands on that baby now!

07.17.09video: passion pit- “to kingdom come”This retro flavored video for "To Kingdom Come" combines stop-motion film and animation to take viewers on a trip back to Victorian days. It would be a little foolish of me to say this is one of my favorite tracks from Manners, as I've been ranting about how much I love many of these tracks for months, but I'm going to go ahead and say it anyways.

07.15.09video: grizzly bear- “all we ask at pabst theater”The Pabst Theater was able to capture this intimate performance of Grizzly Bear's vocal workout "All We Ask" when the band came through in June. The video features the band playing the song while seated in the theater's upper balcony amidst fans and venue staff. In this setting, the song manages to take on a whole different, and equally as effective, light.

07.10.09video: sally shapiro- “love in july”If you didn't get to live through the period of the original disco divas, Sally Shapiro just might make you feel like you're living in 1979 instead of 2009. The Swedish sensation has a voice to die for and always has incredible production backing her vocal tracks. Beyond that, she sings about love with an authenticity that is rarely heard in electronic music. "Love In July" is a timely video, especially with how kind love has been to me this summer. 07.09.09video: bark bark bark- “i’m needy”Bark Bark Bark has been a part of the local Phoenix music scene for as long as I can remember. I can't even count how many shows I've seen at Modified with Jacob on the lineup. So, I thought it was awesome when Jacob moved to LA and joined The Mae Shi as their drummer. The band has had a lot of success and now Bark Bark Bark has gotten some major recognition as well. Pitchfork premiered the music video for the track "I'm Needy" early this morning.
