It’s a rainy tuesday in Phoenix again, so here’s a little something for those of you that are staying indoors. Daniel Chiazza is one of those friends that you envy for various reasons. The reason I envy Daniel is his incredibly sick and ever-growing record collection. He put together this mix recently to share some of those records with all of you out there. This guy is a hidden gem amongst the Phoenix underground DJ scene. Here’s his description of the mix:

We’re now officially eight days away from the biggest two weeks in music. Yes, it’s March again and that can only mean that SXSW 2010 is about to arrive. There is an overwhelming amount of bands scheduled to play this year and the festival organizers wanted to make sure they gave attendees the chance to preview as many acts as possible. In that spirit, the organizers have posted MP3’s by nearly every artist attending on the official site. I know you’re thinking it’s way too much of a pain in the ass to download over 1000 tracks and then try to arrange them in some order that makes sense. That’s why I’d like to say thank you to the kind soul that grabbed all of the available songs and split it up into a two part torrent that you can download right here. What a gift this is!

Select is racking up one amazing show after another in the two week period surround SXSW. Here’s another must-attend to add to your list. Hunx and The Punkettes may be the only bubblegum pop girl-group led by a flamboyantly gay man. If not, they’re certainly the best. I saw them open for Girls down in Tucson and was more than a little floored by their set. You’ll find yourself dancing around immediately when this band starts playing. The girl-group influenced pop doesn’t stop with them though, as Oakland’s Shannon and The Clams is also on this show. It will also feature Slow Club from the UK. The band is a little out of their element on this bill with their indie pop sound, but that will only make things a little more interesting. The night is rounded up by The Pods, who are quickly becoming a favorite local band of mine.

What Laura Says has become one of the most consistently great bands in town over the past few years. In fact, go see this band play a show at the Yucca Tap Room on a Saturday night and feel the energy thats produced from their set. That will give you a much more accurate representation of anything I can say about them. Good luck getting a drink with as packed as their shows normally are though! The band is releasing their sophomore LP “Bloom Check” on Terpsikhore Records in June. If you can’t wait until then to hear it, you can see them play some of the songs at a multitude of upcoming local shows, as well as check out this teaser video that the band just released.

Denver has turned into the stronghold of the US electronic scene over the past couple of years. One of the premiere acts to rise out of this scene is Pretty Lights; featuring members Derek Vincent Smith and Cory Eberhard making music on a mix of Ableton Live and acoustic and electronic drums. They’ve crafted a huge following largely by giving away all their music for free on their website and touring endlessly across the globe. They got invited to play Coachella this year and that means Phoenix is lucky enough to get them coming through on their way back from that big show in California.

They’re bringing their mix of downtempo and hip hop to The Marquee along with incredibly talented beatmaker Eliot Lipp. Advance tickets for the show are available now for $17.50. There’s two other great shows I want to see on April 19th, but something tells me I might still find myself at this one. And you should definitely make your way here if you like to dance and hear forward-thinking music. Join me in thinking the Culture Shock people for taking risks and bringing acts here we might not see otherwise. Who else is ready for April!?

I know we can all get a little overwhelmed this time of the year with how many shows come through town. It can be easy to completely miss finding out about a show before its too late. Hopefully if you read this blog regularly it makes it a little easier to catch up. Here’s another show I haven’t heard a lot of people talking about yet. The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! are coming to the Trunk Space on March to party with Phoenix. This band is quickly becoming legendary for their ADD-powered live performances that have left quite a few people out of breath and sweating by the time they finish playing their set.

Joining them on this tour is Philly’s garage/soul upstarts The Shakes. Getting the press releases for this tour is the first time I’ve heard of the band, but I must say I’m impressed and looking forward to seeing what they deliver live. The two bands made a joint video to promote the tour, which I’ve kindly posted below. Rounding out the lineup for the Phoenix show is local acts Treasure Mammal and Destroyah. Strap on your dancing shoes for this one Phoenicians!

You might remembered that I gave lots of praise to First Rate People’s debut single “Girls’ Night” awhile back. The song’s mix of indie and R&B, along with male and female vocals, really struck a chord with me. It appears Mister Fidget was paying attention and sent over his remix of the track that he did along with Sound Remedy earlier this morning. Now that I’ve gotten to play it a few times, I figured I should share the wealth. This remix is super slick; I only wish that it was longer! These are two producers that just showed up on my radar with the release of this track, so I’ll have to keep my eyes and ears on what they do in the future. I recommend you do the same, as I think we’ll be hearing their names a lot more in the future if this one is any indication.

I’ve been so busy over the past couple of days that I actually missed posting on the one year anniversary of this site. That’s right, I started Factory Made Future on February 28th of 2009. There’s been nearly 1500 posts since then and the amount of readers has grown steadily each month. Thanks a lot to everyone involved in the success of this site; you have my promise that I will continue to grow it in 2010 and beyond. I also come bearing gifts to celebrate a year gone by. Here’s the first single from Javelin’s upcoming album “No Mas”.

You might remember my introduction to the band a few weeks back and how I told you I was very excited about the album’s release on April 20th. Well now that I’ve gotten to hear the first single, I’m even more so. Don’t forget to get tickets to see these guys open for Yeasayer on April 17th at the Rhythm Room. I also included a video of the band partaking in XLR8R’s “Tune In An Afternoon” project where the band was given a day to make a song using only instruments they had on tour with them and some cassettes from a thrift-store.

Twin Tigers are from Athens, Georgia and are preparing to release their debut album on Tuesday. I first heard of the band when I was researching bands as I prepared to travel to Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin this previous November. They were one of the bands on the fest that I had yet to hear that I was most excited about. The band’s dizzying mix of psych-indie-pop has received comparisons to legendary acts such as Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and Psychocandy-era Jesus and the Mary Chain. Now I know those are some big names to be throwing out there, but this young band delivers. On top of their immense talent, they were incredibly nice people when I met them in Austin. Check out two tracks from the LP and their video below.
