  Freelance Whales have gone from busking in NYC subway stations and playing shows at abandoned farm colonies in Staten Island to landing high profile gigs at Sasquatch and Lollapalooza, all in less than a years time. That would be impressive enough, but what's even more impressive is the band has done it even before their debut album has been release.   Local Natives are based in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles and take a lot of influence from the sounds and energy of the area. The band's sound is comprised of soaring harmonies and orchestral melodies that remind me a lot of the Zombies, combined with traces of Afro-beat and touches of post-punk.
