It’s been a couple of crazy busy weeks for me, and unfortunately I haven’t had much time to update this blog. Luckily I have had time to catch a couple of shows at the brand new Crescent Ballroom downtown. I’ve got to say that I’m absolutely in love with this venue, and not just because Stateside advertises on this blog. This is exactly what Phoenix has been needing. The sound is amazing, the layout and size of the venue are just right, and there are multiple bars filled with delicious drinks. Best of all, this will drastically cut down on the number of shows held at the always-awful Clubhouse. Praise jesus! If you haven’t made it down to the venue yet, tomorrow night will be a massive dance party with CSS and MEN, so you should get your asses down there and dance!

Now that school is back in session, it’s time for the party season to kick into high gear in downtown Tucson. Luckily the fine folks at Opti Clubbin and Bang Bang have the perfect night lined up for all the co-eds to try to grind all over each other at. The party promoters are teaming up to bring LA’s Them Jeans to Club Congress for a free party on September 3rd. That’s right, as long as you’re 21 and don’t smell like you haven’t showered in a month, you’re getting into this party totally free. This doesn’t give you liability to be a cheap bastard of course. Tip your bartenders! Phoenix kids, don’t be shy. The party is happening on a Saturday night and would definitely be worth a drive down.

I don’t know if anything from Pusha T is going to satisfy me the way “Hell Hath No Fury” did ever again, but I’m still always excited when I see him put out something new. Here’s the long-awaited drop of a track off his EP “Fear Of God: Let Us Pray,” which is being released on August 23rd. This one is all aggression and bass through and through, and features some nice verse from Ye and Jeezy. If the rest of the EP holds up to the quality of this track, we’ll definitely have something new to turn up extra loud and drive real slow to.

SBTRKT managed to release my favorite electronic album of the year, when the masked producer dropped his self-titled debut earlier this year. The album just so happened to feature my absolute favorite song of the summer, “Wildfire,” which also features the stellar vocals of Little Dragon. If you’ve managed to hear this track, then I definitely don’t have to tell you about it’s addictive quality. But, you’re likely to get addicted all over again when you hear this remix that Drumma Boy did. Bonus guest vocals from Seattle’s Shabazz Palaces, who has completely taken the hip hop world by storm during 2011.

It was only a few days ago that I was last writing about my current addiction to Frank Ocean’s music, so you might be surprised to see another post so soon. Well, let’s just say the man knows how to keep a blogger interested, and continuously posting new tracks on your Tumblr is definitely one path to success. Here he is following up his Fader cover story by releasing this stunner called “Thinking About You.” He doesn’t seem likely to let up any time soon.

Dallas Green is City and Colour, and as far as I’m concerned, Dallas Green is a goddamn genius. The man creates some of the most moving acoustic folk music I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. His recently released album “Little Hell” is sitting high up on my list of favorite records of the year, and will likely hold out strong until the end. I found this incredible remix from Sydney-based producer The Gripp, and was pretty shocked when I did. I wouldn’t think that the album’s first single would translate into a low-key disco stormer, but that’s exactly what this chap from Sydney managed to do. This shit is on repeat!

November is a month that’s stacked with awesome shows in Phoenix and Tucson, with quite a few hip hop shows amongst them. Obviously everyone is geeking out over the OFWGKTA show happening at Marquee on November 8th, but I’m hoping you’re not sleeping on a tour coming through each of the aforementioned towns just a few days after. Universatile Music is bringing The Blue Slide Park Tour to the Celebrity Theatre on November 11th and to Rialto Theatre on November 12th. The tour is being headlined by one of hip hop’s fastest rising stars, Mac Miller, and features the talented openers Pac Div and Casey Veggies. If you love hip hop, and don’t mind the thick smell of marijuana smoke filling a venue, get your tickets to this tour immediately!

I’ve been bordering on obsessed with Frank Ocean lately, so this remix found it’s way to my ears at just the right time. “Novacane” is one of those rare tracks that was clearly built for radio, but doesn’t manage to come off as manufactured in the least. I’ve gotten my greedy paws on a bunch of remixes for this track so far, but I’m really happy to get one from Arizona’s own Pickster One. He’s been absolutely killing it on the Southwest Moombahton tip lately and definitely putting Phoenix on the map. Taking a quick listen to this remix will let you know why he’s got everyone talking. I’m feeling totally overwhelmed by all the new genres that exist in music today. It seems like every day, there’s at least a couple of new ones that appear out of nowhere. Here’s a track that comes from yet another new genre, known to the hungry masses as Footstep. To me, this is just some good glitchy electronic music with a heavy house beat keeping the train running on the rails. Hesk is from Montreal, and I don’t honestly know much about the producer. I do know that I love this track and all his other tracks posted over at his Soundcloud page. Enjoy the free downloads and go school your friends on the Footstep.

I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch for me to say that Toronto has cemented itself as the reigning champion of dance music in North America. The city consistently produces some of the most exciting and unique acts in the world. The melting pot of cultures there have no doubt led to the mashing of styles that has produced sounds you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. Azari & III has been on my radar for a minute now, but with the release of their new single “Manic,” and a whole heaping of press coverage, I think they’re about ready to join the long list of acts to come from Toronto and conquer the world. This track is stellar, mixing a classic 90′s house rhythm with infectious vocals and modern production tricks. Then there’s the video, which really tops it off. Their debut album is getting released tomorrow and is streaming on their site right now. It’s the perfect record for enjoying the rest of this brutal summer.
