Here’s a band that I’ve been waiting for to come through town all year. I’ve been expecting them to make a stop at some time, since they’ve been touring behind their latest album Manners throughout. The album is one of my favorites of the year and has been receiving warm reviews from a variety of diverging media outlets. Passion Pit is a band that I’m well aware has a lot of detractors, mostly stemming from the high-pitched vocal styling of leader Michael Angelakos. If you’re not into that style, I can understand not being able to get behind this band, but I love the style of synth-pop that they kick out and can’t wait to see how it translates live. Nate Donmoyer is one extremely talented individual. Not only does he play drums for Passion Pit, but he also records some incredibly dense and glitchy electronic music under the alias Shuttle. He’s released a few killer records on Ninja Tune, and now he gives us this jaw-dropping remix. “Love Like A Sunset” used to be a slowly developing ambient track until Nate revamped it with some of the most urgent synth sounds I’ve heard all year. Try this one on for size and track down some of Nate’s other work, you’ll be very impressed.

“Little Secrets” is the track off the record I find myself going back to most often. It’s a disco-inspired track with a chorus to die for that makes you want to dance from the second it kicks in. So, a perfect remix for a track like this would keep the spirit of the original in tact and amp up the funk to a whole new level.

Luckily that’s exactly what was done on this Internals Friends Complain remix. Along with taking a few cut up vocal samples from the song and layering them in perfect fashion. This gives the song a perfect opportunity to make the jump from the car speakers to the club.

The track is a little underwhelming overall, but it’s still pretty fun for a summer afternoon. Nothing special, but not terribly offending either. This time it was the pitching down of the vocals. Didn’t see that one coming! And honestly, I didn’t feel comfortable with it for the first few seconds, but then I let the song overtake me and quickly fell in love with this remix. Thanks for another summertime cooker Sammy!

Passion Pit’s debut album Manners was released yesterday and so begins the band taking over the world. The first single from the album is called “The Reeling” and has been impossible to get out of my head since the first time I heard it. The remixes of the track are starting to break out, and here’s two of the better ones I’ve been able to find so far.

The Calvin Harris remix is brilliantly understated. I’m really glad he didn’t go the typical electro route and amp up the distortion, but that’s all part of why Mr. Harris continues to stay a step ahead of the remix game. The Burns remix is on the housier tip and would make a great opener for a summer mix.

We brought you the first single from Passion Pit’s forthcoming album Manners a few weeks back. Well, now we’re proud to give you the video for the track as well. “The Reeling” is damn near impossible to get out of your head after hearing it, and the video compliments the song very well. I’ve said it before, but this band is going to do big things this year. Look for the album to be released May 19th on Frenchkiss Records.

Passion Pit’s debut album is set to be released May 12th on Frenchkiss Records. The album is called Manners and was produced by Chris Zane who has worked with Les Savy Fav, The Walkmen, etc in the past. Here’s the first single off the album. It’s called “The Reeling”.

If you’re going to compare yourself to two of my favorite musicians, you better deliver the goods when it comes to what you release. I’m happy to report this Cambridge, Massachusetts band has definitely delivered thus far. These two tracks are off their EP Chunk Of Change. They have a full length coming out on Frenchkiss very soon.
